Worldwide journeys of culture and musical exploration.

Adventures bringing people of all backgrounds together to experience liberation through the power of music.

Welcome

To Liberation Music.

A project founded in late 2024 by Jake Hakus alongside a family of international associates - Ilyass Rchouk of Morocco, Denbo Jobarteh and Bubakarr Keita of Gambia and Senegal, and Sandro Pimentel Barros of Cabo Verde.

We organise journeys to the homelands of these masters and bring our travellers face-to-face with them - providing a unique setting in which participants can ask any question, receive direct tuition, and hear authentically sourced stories.

"Currently we are focused in West Africa for its direct connection with the history of slavery and its rich musical culture - with the intention to eventually replicate these experiences around the globe."

Our Philosophy

Connecting the spirit of musics that survived oppression.

Liberation Music showcases true masters in the craft of traditional musics - traditions that have withstood the tides of time, colonialism and slavery.

We connect and collaborate musicians and music-lovers from around the globe, carrying ancient stories and the music of our ancestors forward into the future.

The Masters

Direct tuition from those who carry the tradition.
